Hiya! I’m having my op on the 7th of September so it’s coming up soon! I was wondering how long it would be until I can go to the gym after my surgery, no heavy lifting for quite some time I imagine but cardio? Was wondering how other girls got on. X

@hannahkbb Hey chick, I took 3 weeks off the gym entirely before my brain was about ready to explode! If nothing else I was desperate to give my legs and bum a pump … I went with a friend for a few light leg sessions over the next two weeks. Couldn’t do everything & was really thankful I had him there to help cause I was a bit suprised the things I couldn’t do. My surgery was July 2nd & even now I haven’t a hole of training chest (not too bothered by that tho) I’m a bit limited training back & shoulders … Arms isn’t so bad & fine jumping on a bike for some cardio (don’t feel comfortable going for a run or anything but didn’t like that before)

I was back in the gym at 10 dpo doing treadmill walking with incline and bodyweight lower body exercises such as squats and lunges. I’m now 18 dpo and I have been using isolated leg machines, resistance bands and the smith machine for legs. I just make sure I don’t hold on or do anything which will engage my chest muscles. I get all of my cardio doing treadmill walking using the incline to increase the intensity. I know advice is no gym for 6 weeks but I personally think if you are sensible, avoid upper body until you are 6 weeks post op and don’t do anything which causes pain it is better to keep fit and active; it was also driving me mad as I was training 5 days a week before my op. My pain and mobility improved dramatically as soon as I started back at the gym xx

I was also wondering about this as I train 6 days a week so the idea of 6 weeks off is maddening lol ???? I was thinking just lower body after a week or two off after surgery ☺
