Has anyone else had to have their blood tests done through their doctors? Have a telephone appointment today so they can give me a form to take to the hospital however they don’t yet know it’s for cosmetic surgery.

My surgery is in 18 days so was just wondering if anyone else has had to do this and whether or not their doctor was happy to do the bloods and fax the results to mya in good time?

Hi Susan, I had my preop at Chelmsford over a week ago and was not told I needed a blood test either. They also confirmed they received my sign off from my doctor so all is good and ready I believe! Not sure everyone needs the blood tests. Not sure why though x I’m also assuming MRSA came back fine!

That is strange for her to say it was two late to do Hun as I have my pre oo 6 at night and my nurse still took them maybe ring back and ask them again your doctor will more than likely charge you for bloods as it’s for a cosmetic reasons xxx

The reason they may have said it’s to late could be the area and the local hematology department could have shut. This happens in my area if you don’t have the bloods taken before a certain time then there’s no collection to get the blood. I’ve been known to drive my own sample to the hospital lol.

Can MYA not give you another appointment to do bloods? I think GPs charge roughly £18 for cosmetic blood tests x

I had my bloods done today, the doctors didn’t charge! However my iron levels are slightly low and my op is in two weeks. Find out on Tuesday if they’re low enough to have to do a re-test the week before! Has anyone else only had a week to get their iron levels up?

If you’ve got no medical history that suggests you’d need one they won’t do one. I only had one because I’ve had issues with blood clotting in the past. Don’t worry, your nurse would’ve sorted your blood tests at your pre op if you needed them, there are loads of girls that didn’t need them on here!x

I’m sure it will be fine! I’m just worried as mines 17 days away and it doesn’t seem like much time to sort my iron levels out, hopefully they’re high enough for them to be happy to do the surgery!

@cailin I’ve suffered with anemia all my life. Have you got iron tablets and eat iron rich foods so lentils, spinach, beef etc. Also orange juice helps to absorb iron into your body 🙂 x

I’ve just been and bought some tonight! Were your iron levels still classed as low when you had your op or did they refuse to do surgery until they were normal?

@cailin was your surgery postponed due to having low iron

Hi Jellisa, my op wasn’t postponed, both the surgeon and anaesthetist were happy to go ahead. My ferritin level was 14 (should be above 20) and haemoglobin was 14.6 so that one was normal.
