Has anyone suffered with depression in the past and it have an effect on wether the surgery can go ahead, I really want my breasts doing but i have dealt with depression in the past but now I have read on a few forums that they won’t actually carry out the procedure or will cancel last minute? Has anyone actually had them done even having depression in the past?

    Thanks in advance

Hi Sam! I’ve had my operation done now, I’ve suffered with depression for a few years now. After reading the forums I decided to tell a few white lies in my process (I know it’s naughty but even though I knew my mental health wasn’t affecting my decision regarding surgery I knew they wouldn’t see it that way) but obviously I don’t know your history with it. I was put on antidepressants around 2.5 years ago and came off them after 6 months, and didn’t go back to my gp after that. Because it was so long ago it was easy to avoid questions about it being a current issue. It’s annoying because depression is somewhat permanent in some people, just like people permanently have diabetes etc. I know personally that my mental health is under control, even though on paper it’s still there so I felt comfortable to go ahead with the surgery. There are ways around it, I’ve seen other girls say they’ve had surgery whilst being in therapy because their therapist wrote letters saying they were stable. As long as you have the correct paperwork and you tell them it’s not a current issue you should be okay. Just be sure that you’re stable at the moment I suppose!xxx

Kelly, not if you’ve been on your medication for longer than 6 months. They require you to be steady on your pills before having surgery.

If mya won’t do it then try a hospital, I have bipolar n anxiety disorder there was no issue with spire I told them how long I’ve been on meds n stable he asked if I wanted to see a psychologist but agreed that it wasn’t necessary, other than telling my dr I was having the op they didn’t ask for anything from my dr and taking my tablets wasn’t an issue either xx

My op was cancelled a week before the first time round and they forced me to wait a year. Their general rule is 2 years of normal mental health, so make sure you don’t have any record of episodes of depression for at least 2 years in your GP records. I was devastated when they cancelled my op last year – hope this info helps and they don’t pull that bullshit on you xx

I suffered with depression, anxiety and panic attacks, still get anxiety and panic attacks, didn’t mention that though, they knew about my past and asked if I’m on any current medication for it, which haven’t for years and still went ahead, xx

Thanks girls for the replies, I’m stable and have been for a long time I think I just stress to much but whenever Iv been to the doctors they just end up giving me tablets for anxiety, most the time I am fine and having a breast enlargment is something I have wanted for so long but could never really afford until now, but the last time I went to the doctors a few months back after having my daughter they once again prescribed anxiety tablets but whenever I have been given the tablets I have never actually taken them, would this make a difference? I just don’t want to make the mistake of going ahead with it and it being cancelled, I would go to another place to get them done but I really wanted mr traynor but I can’t find any other hospitals he carries out surgery a with? X
