MYA have chased me for GP medical report so I have called my GP practise and have been advised the report can take between 4-6 weeks time! Wow… MYA have only sent it last week and GP surgery have received it yesterday, funnily my surgery is scheduled for 14th of July… which in over a weeks time.
GP surgery have advised me for MYA to resend the request and mark it as urgent due to surgery date being so close. I don’t know what to do… Did anyone have similar experience? Bloody bureaucracy!

Hi Kamila and Stacey, does everyone need to provide a GP letter prior to surgery? I have been on anti-depressants for years which I am upfront about but I am so worried this will hinder my chances. xx

@vanlife Yes it is mandatory to get GP letter and without it surgery wont go ahead or get postponed until you get it but MYA gets it for you, you don’t have to do anything. GP has to say you are stable mentally to get surgery so as far as you are it should be alright. Not sure if you will be allowed to keep taking your anti depressants as you have to discontinue any medications at 1-2 weeks beforehand depends on what it is, your nurse will be able to advise you on that. Contact MYA nurse and she will tell you.

No problem @vanlife ! hope it helps xxx

They need your NHS number @hannahlaura and you do need to fill in the details of your GP with your PC or before your PC apt if you booked it online. They will need to have it cuz they will need to request your medical report and a go ahead from GP and then they will send details to your GP after surgery for their records in case of any complications so they are aware aswell. It all stays on your NHS file under your number.

My pc advised me I would need to request a medical report from my GP and bring it along to my pre op. Had a nightmare getting anything sorted with the GP as they misplaced the letter I wrote to request it, then nobody knew what was going on. Thankfully had confirmation today it is being typed up and I can collect it monday! My pre op isnt until 20th July but I was beginning to panic I wouldn’t have my report by then!

I never had to give a medical report either, they took my nhs number but definitely never requested my medical records and I have a heart condition I told them about! Must be different rules for different surgeons maybe?! I had mr Traynor x

I never had to get a medical report and MYA never asked me for my NHS number but I got it just in case and I sent it to my PC last week. My op is on the 26th July, but i’ve not heard anything back about my GP letter so i’m hoping everything is okay! I don’t want to pester my PC about things either xx

@kristina92 I have not got my time yet but im going to Preston night before anyway so my admission time doesn’t matter as much cuz ill be 8 minutes away from hospital by foot haha my husband can drive me night before then leave me there and come back Friday to pick me up and stay night in hotel together.

They usually leave it 48 hours before the day to tell you, I was really shocked I got mine a week before. Im glad I got mine early though as I’ve had to ask my dad to look after the kids while me and my partner drive down, it will take me about 3 hours to get down to London, so early start for us! I think you’ve done the best thing getting a hotel night before so you haven’t got to stress getting there on time. I can’t believe we’ve got just 4 days left!!! Xx
