Okay so I’m 2 days post op and I’m freaking out about my dressings, one is bloodier than the other and I’m terrified of them getting infected, any advice anyone can provide would be great

@laura I really wouldn’t worry about that. Seeing blood on your dressings is very normal. The only time I’d start to worry is if it ends up soaked and starts to flow, then you’d need to be ringing your nurse xx

    Hi Laura,

I had intense burning and then a lot of the fluid that you have on my dressing. I called the emergency number and they got me in, they said it was completely normal and because it’s so early on its expected that there’s fluid. It would be worrying if you were 14 days post op. They told me they could take the strips off to look but if they did it would disturb the healing process.

Call them and check if you’re unsure but 2 days in an mine was exactly the same. I’m only 5 days now.

Hope this helps. I hate this healing process!

It’s awful isn’t it, I don’t feel much pain really though I’m just uncomfortable, keep getting twinges on one side and the dressing is freaking me out and I keep getting scared about them getting infected x

@laura as long as you keep that dressing on, whether it’s bloodied or not, there will be little chance of infection. It’s when you take it off and the wounds are exposed to the air and bacteria that there’s the chance of infection. So don’t worry 🙂 xx

    Laura I’m the same.

And my pain has been pretty serious, especially in my left boob.

I didn’t realise how painful it would be because my friends had a really easy healing process.

I asked about twinges and they’re good news, it means that the feeling is coming back, the nerves are stretching and mending.

My stitches burn and shoot like mad, straight up to my nipple but the doctor said it’s completely normal whilst you’re healing.

I agree with Katie, your wounds are locked up nice and safe with the tape so there’s nothing getting in to cause infection.

I panic a lot about thes things but not many people get infections and it’s usually after the wounds are exposed xxxxx

Okay thankyou both of you x I’m just really anxious about that for some reason and it’s hard to know what’s normal and isn’t x

Laura its really hard to know it mine looks the same.

If we were strapped up like others we wouldn’t be able to see them and we wouldn’t be worrying.

I’m so happy the first couple of days are over xx

Mine were alot worse than yours Laura and I was was worried about infection also but like the above lady said aslong as it it’s pouring out and saturated it’s fine and also keep those strips on theyll keep any bacteria put of your incisions x

I’ve had my dressings changed today and the nurse said all is looking good, so I’m going to try and chill out
