Hi girls! Looking to book my surgery date six weeks before going Bali for two weeks which is a long haul flight. Surgeon said it will be fine from six weeks on but wondering if anyone had any experience of the sea and pool water following surgery and how it was as well as the flight xxx

I booked my holiday (6hr flight) nine or so weeks after my surgery date, but then my surgery got postponed … now I’m flying six weeks post op thereabouts .. well, it’s about five and a half. Told no sea, no pool and no direct sun. Apparently it’s a big risk going in the water as infection risk is high. I’m going away again in August when I’ll be about 30 weeks so will make up for sea and pool time then! X

I also booked a long haul holiday for 9 weeks post op. Unfortunately I got an infection and had to have one of the implants removed at 4 weeks post op. The surgeon has confirmed that I’m fine to go on the holiday but need to be dressings free for 10 days prior. What I’ve learnt over the past few weeks is the everyone has different recovery rates and healing. I still have one dressing on from the initial op x

Omg Jayne was the infection from a holiday or water or was that separate? So glad it’s resolved now that must have been awful! And Lauren is that because it’s obly 5 and a half weeks or even if it was 6 weeks you wouldn’t be able to go in the sea? My surgeon has said it’s fine just no direct sunlight on the wounds but from reading elsewhere I’m concerned it will ruin my holiday and my boyfriend is so excited lol don’t want to wait but feel like the sensible thing to do it have the surgery after the holiday xxx

Hi no the infection was separate. The holiday is in 4 weeks, I had the implant removed a week ago.

@HB I had a similar thread up last week.

I go on a long haul holiday exactly 6 weeks to the day of my op. I have my pre-op in 3 weeks so I will ask my surgeon the question. From the digging I have done, I think it depends a lot on your surgeons preference. However, all of the advice I read onanither surgery forum where surgeons answer questions, was anywhere between 2-4 weeks was fine to go in the pool/sea but no direct sunlight.

Well I fall in to the 6 week mark while away and the nurse said no water! She even told me not to paddle incase I fall over in the water ? from what I’ve read online, most advice is three weeks onwards to go swimming. I think me personally, I’ll see how I feel when I get there!
