    Hi girls,

Just wanted to let you know some information I found out when I had drama trying to get my medical records.

So I read on here a while ago if your GP doesn’t provide medical records it can delay or postpone your surgery. I rang my Doctors 2 weeks ago as my PC advised they did not send my records and I spoke to the receptionist (obviously this won’t happen to everyone).
She asked me why I need my medical records and if they are for insurance purposes. I told her no it is for an operation and MYA have sent a request already … she said what is MYA so I told her it’s a cosmetic surgery company and she said very patronisingly oohhh plastic surgery (who even calls it plastic anymore).

She told me it would be sent out in the next few days which was fine because my pre op is tomorrow and I thought I had plenty of time.
I asked my PC if they have received it this week and she said no -_- I rang them again today and spoke to the same lady who said she didn’t ‘recall’ and would speak to the doctors to see what they can do.

By midday I rang again and spoke to another receptionist to ask if I can collect my medical records on my break and she said oh I don’t think so but would check with the other receptionist and get back to me.

I was fuming at this point and rang NHS complaints and advise line (wouldn’t normally complain but felt they weren’t taking it seriously because it’s cosmetic surgery)
The woman was shocked and told me that patients can request their own medical records and doctors/gp have the legal requirement to provide them which should also be free of charge due to the new GDPR rules and that they shouldn’t ask us why we are requesting them! If they refuse to ask to speak to the practise manager and hit them with the facts!

Long story short I got my medical records but doctors have to provide them and shouldn’t ask you why .. rant over lol!

I Had a similar issue, really struggled to get mine from reception, in the end I booked a doctor’s appt & ask my GP for them & uploaded them myself on the app. The Dr was was brilliant about it, no judgement or anything unlike the receptionists! Xx

I had the same problems it took me nearly a month to get it all sorted …. I even asked the receptionist what their policies were on GDPR and if they had a copy for patients only to be told that as a receptionist they only answer the phone and book appointments so wouldn’t know anything about it …. ????????

It’s bad that the receptionist can do this and potentially ruin your surgery plans but glad I called and got the facts!

Thank god it’s all sorted now and can just relax until September ahah x
