Had my pre-op today and the nurse said they usually advise you to stay in a hotel after your op. I would be travelling back to Sheffield which is just under two hours away so not mega far. Would anyone recommend staying in a hotel and travelling back the next day? Or should I just go home?

    Thanks girls xx

You’ll be fine travelling back I’d say. I was driven back home after my surgery which is a 5 hour drive. I was pretty much out of it but slept the whole way. Xx

I travelled an hour back home after surgery. Tbh all you want is to get home so I would suggest not staying in a hotel xx

I stayed in a hotel, which worked out well for me as my body didn’t agree with the anaesthetic so threw up after the surgery, including after the short drive back to the hotel (via McDonald’s) but I slept it off and was fine the next day! Didn’t feel a single bump in the road x

Yeah I would rather just go straight home after, get in to my own bed! If you’ve travelled 5 hours i’m sure I can manage 2, thanks girls! xx

I travelled home after surgery just made sure I took the painkillers as it was four and half hour drive, lots of pillows and I was glad to get home to my bed. X

    Hi,

You’re advised to book hotel but I travelled home too as the other girls say it’s the only place you want to be.

I’m staying in a hotel as I couldn’t imagine anything worse then say my stitches coming undone and I’m far away.

I stayed in a hotel after surgery, it’s advised just in case anything goes wrong so you’re close by.
I asked the hotel for extra pillows & I think they had a few people in from MYA as they were very accommodating. I wasn’t uncomfortable in the hotel. My drive home was only 3 hours but it made sense to stay for safety purposes

Ah I was all set on going straight home but now I don’t know! @tracey13 that is one of my main worries, I am a massive worrier though so maybe I should just stay for peace of mind

My op is tomorrow morning, I’m staying in a hotel near the hospital tonight and tomorrow night. I’m so glad I booked the hotel for the night before now as my admission time is 7am!! Felt staying over after the op would be safest bet for me as I would have to travel back on the train and I was advised against that. Xx

Yeah that’s probably a good idea if you’re getting the train back!

Good luck with your op tomorrow!! @claire-marie xx

Yes, I’m a worried too so I think it’s best and I only live 1 3/4 hours away. Plus I think I’ll look forward to eating and relaxing rather then going on the bumpy roads. Hotels are pretty cheap around there too x
