I’ve got my op on coming up with Dr Fiumara and I’ve heard that she doesn’t usually use strapping but does use a breast band. I think I have to wear this for around 4 weeks.
Anyway my op is on the 22nd Jan and my anniversary is on 27th, I know I won’t be up for doing much but if I am feeling good to go out (somewhere local) for dinner etc I’d like to get maybe a nice top to wear.
I’ve been looking at ones that hide my bulky Macom/ Yianna bras but then realised I may have a breastband on !! 🙁
Is it possible for me to take it off for a few hours? Or should I not risk it at 5DPO?
    Thanks girls x

I didn’t have a breastband at all or strapping and I had unders. I guess it depends on the surgeon and I’m no expert but I’d say if you do end up with one you would be fine without it for a few hours x

No you shouldn’t noway! I had a surgical bra on for 6 weeks and above that i was strapped for 10-14 days so it was a double effect kind of thing. And you only have a breast band with no surgical bra and you wana take it off at day 5?!!! Plz dont its a once in a lifetime procedure so do it right from A-Z

Honestly day 5 I could no way have gone out for even a meal sat still and I really wouldn’t risk taking the band off even for a few hours. I honestly don’t think you’ll even want to. You’ll feel very delicate and vulnerable day 5 and the breast band despite crushing your chest and making ur breathing hard will also make you feel far more supported. You have to remember day 5 your incisions will have hardly closed up. You want to be as supported as possible. At the end of the day everyone recovers differently so no one can really tell you how you’ll feel. From my personal experience I felt like crap day 5 and not to scare anyone but I think girls need to go into this op preparing for the worst and hoping for the best because otherwise the recovery will be that more shocking. It was a really really tough first week for me. Bad sleep painful back painful neck lots of tears and I was even sick from the painkillers one morning. It does all turn around fairly quickly and by my second week check up the nurse said I could take the band off for a few hours to eat etc which I did but I agree with the above. You wanna do everything bang by the book it is surgery after all. X

I too was shocked at how painful my recovery was, i thought it was an easy procedure like a piece of cake but it turned out to be a piece of shit. Also not to scare you i was in so much pain at day 5 and exactly as the above mentioned my back was killing me and my neck besides everything else and there was noway on earth I could actually put on any outfit to go out, I could hardly move! Also the strapping or breast band will crush your chest and you will have difficulty breathing but yes as soon as you take them off you’ll feel that your boobs are gona fall and its so uncomfortable, you will want to be strapped back because it makes you feel supported and safe. Please expect a worse recovery beacase from what you are saying it seems that you are expecting a flowery recovery and its not that easy, i hope you end up with an easy one but just mentally prepare yourself thats its not as to not get shocked afterwards like i did, i cried day and night and got severe depression i was locked Home couldn’t move and couldn’t do anything for myself and was in so much pain and had lost hope that I’ll ever be normal again until my 2 weeks mark from then day by day i got better, i am 24dpo now and i am way better but i am still not as normal as i used to be, i need help in some things, not allowed to do a bunch of things etc.. i wish you all the best

I didn’t have a good recovery either, I’m over five wpo now and out for first time tonight but my friend had hers in the Thursday and was out the Friday night, everyone’s recovery is different but as Grainne said if you prepare for the worse then anything else is a bonus, saying that though the actual surgery was a breeze in my eyes, felt like I’d worked myself up over nothing lol. Good luck Hun x

I’m in a whatsapp group where a few girls have had there’s done and some found recovery fine, another is suffering from very bad nausea etc so I definitely know that everyone’s recovery is different. I just wanted to know in case I’m feeling good 5DPO and feel like I can handle getting out for a bit (one girl was back at work 7DPO). I’m gonna listen to my body though and see how it goes, I just want to make sure of these things in advance!
Thanks girls, I’m no going to risk it with the breastband then for sure. Like you said it’s not worth messing up the results! I’ll just stick on a high neck top if I can handle getting out, but maybe I’ll still be house bound day 5, who knows! Xx

Try to wear zip ups the first couple of weeks because you wont be able to raise your arms to wear or take off anything from the top, also dont wear tight pants or leggings because you will need to bend over to wear them and you’re not allowed to for 6 weeks until ur implants settle in their pockets, always wear loose things that you can wear standing straight without bending down, i would say track pants or anything of that sort will be great and a loose skirt ofcourse but its cold anyways so sweat/track pants are more than perfect. Explains why i chose winter to do the surgery haha

I had a really easy recovery and wasn’t in any pain day 5 however saying that I would not have felt okay without any support. I had full strapping for 7 days and although it was itchy and annoying I felt it was very supportive and would have felt very vulnerable without it. I wouldn’t risk removing your band that early on. The first few weeks are so crucial for healing, it’s not worth the risk. Xx

I have only just taken my breast band off after 3 weeks. I used to take it off for a maximum of 5 minutes per day just for a relief from all the pressure from that band and my surgical bra. But I never went without it on 24/7. I’m now free of it and it feels good! It’s worth sticking to the book if you want perfect boobs xx

Thank you Lamis that’s really helpful, I’m going to get myself some comfy trackies etc that are easy to pull on/off! And yeah I think winter clothes are much easier haha, plus easier to hide bulky sports bras!

Hi Hun maybe ask your sugoen and see what she says I didn’t have a breast band or strapping so can’t really comment but I’d imgaine an hour out two without it for a meal wouldn’t cause any harm so long as you put it back on I’m 7 months post op now and found my recovery really easy by day three I was up and hooving and cleaning just being xtra careful but I had no choice either really as my hubby got called to work away on day 2 so was left with three kids youngest being 18 months on my own xxx

I’m 8 weeks post op and would recommend you wear your breast band for as long as your surgeon recommends. As for wearing leggings and bending over I can assure you that you will be fine!

Hi everyone recovers differently . I had my op 20th December. By 25th-Xmas day I visited family n ate meals with them. I was fine to do that, and had stopped taking painkillers by day 5 too, I found recovery quite easy. Just see how you feel. My surgeon didn’t use a breast band so I just had my macom on under my Mrs Clause Santa suit ! xx

Thanks to everyone that’s replied, you’ve all been really helpful! And just goes to show how everyone recovers at a different rate I guess.
I’ll definitely ask my surgeon about it Stacey good idea, but sounds like I’m probably best to just keep the breastband on. And it’s 50/50 whether I’ll be well enough to leave the house by the sounds of it!

Please try not worry about some of the comments people make about their own recovery…. Like a lot say everyone recovers at a different rate and back on their feet quicker than others. Day 5 I had to venture out and ended up going for a coffee, wearing normal clothes (so more than capable of bending over) and was fine, felt a bit weird as it was the first time I’d been out and about but no problems whatsoever. I had a breast band that I had to wear for 4 weeks and only started taking it off for about 5 mins at a time after a shower at about 2.5weeks and the first and only time I had it off for a few hours was at 3weeks for one evening out, but in all honesty I didn’t find it a problem with hiding it under clothes and with what it done in terms of helping them drop made it so worth it!! It’ll become like a comfort blanket so will feel weird having it off at first and trust me the first 4 weeks with fly by. But if Day 5 comes and you feel ok why not go out for dinner, just because others didn’t doesn’t mean you don’t have to. I personally would just keep the band on that early on.
Also…. I had strapping as well as the breast band and even with both it did not feel like it was crushing my chest… Yes there is a tight feeling but will not make you feel like you cannot breath (the band is bliss compared to the first week with the strap). Expect the worst recovery? Don’t do that, be realistic with you are having an operation and you will be pulled about so yes you are of course going to be sore but be excited! The first week is not the smoothest of rides but looking back now it went so quickly and I would 100% do it again, good luck!!xx

Thanks Lauren that was really reassuring!
I’m definitely going to keep the breastband on then, sounds like I won’t want to even take it off anyway haha. And like you say everyone recovers at a different rate, one girl I know was back to work 7DPO while another about the same DPO can’t stop throwing up or leave the house! I’m definitely trying to be realistic about recovery, but if I am lucky enough to have an easy recovery it helps to know what I can and can’t do 🙂
I’ve heard that my surgeon (Fiumara) doesn’t usually use strapping tbh sounds quite awful! Although you’ve reassured me about the band as I was worrying it would feel too tight.
Guess I’ll just have to see how I feel when the day comes 🙂 thanks so much for your reply! xx

I hope my message didn’t scare you in any way @sirenacelestine I really didn’t mean to. I can only say from my own experience how I felt and it’s worth baring in mind some of those easier recoveries if you ask will have had overs which is totally different recovery wise. Just look after yourself rest up and see how you feel. Definitely I hope you do feel well enough to celebrate your anniversary. I just wouldn’t take the band off of you do. My nurse was pretty strict on that stuff and mine definitely did make my breathing shallow and drove me mad. But it has to be tight to reduce swelling. It all turns around really quickly pain wise and one day it will just flip and you’ll feel lots better but everyone’s day that happens seems different so air on the side of caution. It’s all worth it though my new boobs have already transformed how I feel about myself I am totally in love with them as I’m sure you will be with yours. Good luck with it x

Not at all Grainne don’t worry, I like to hear honest experiences good and bad so I know what to expect! I’m definitely going to stick with the breastband as I’m scared of ruining my results. It’s not worth it. And if I’m feeling awful day 5 then my boyfriend and I can just celebrate the next weekend or something once I’m feeling more human 🙂
I really can’t wait to finally have boobs! Good luck with the rest of your recovery 🙂 Xx

I had a breast band my surgeon told me to wear mine for 2 weeks. My nurse said if I fancy taking it off for a rest! For 30 mins or so it would be ok. But all surgeons and nurses say different things x

Lamis.. Thank you, your post has given me hope! Lol. I am currently on day 6 post op from Ba & uplift and have sadly experienced all that you described. Everyone definitely is different and shall be different after surgery, however I can relate to your pain at the moment. The tightness of the strapping leaves me taking small breaths and the pain and nausea I feel is unreal! I like to think I have a high pain threshold having of given birth three times, labours 24 hours+ no epidurals!, and having gallstones and gall bladder removal, but I was not prepared for how extreme the recovery for this procedure could be! It is lovely to read that you are now feeling much better and I cannot wait to get to that point! It shall all be worth it in the end! Lol x
