    Hi all

Literally on the verge of booking surgery and I did a last read through of the Mentor booklet that MYA give you and came across the small risk of BIA-ALCL – a lymphoma associated with textured implants ( usually years and years after the procedure). It says that is is VERY VERY rare so not trying to be negative / scare anyone but I don’t think have seen anything about it posted on this forum before? Does anyone know anything about it?

Rang my PC yesterday about it and she said MYA only offer textured implants. This makes me think it can’t be that much of a risk if they are providing thousands of patients with these implants… But I am a bit of a worrier so just wondered if anyone had this conversation with their surgeon before booking?

    Thanks X

    Hi Frankie

Initially when booking with MYA I was concerned about this too. However when you consider that the risk is sooo low and the whole range of health issues that could happen in life anyway, I stopped being as concerned. That’s my view 🙂 xx

If mya use mentor then they are micro textured implants, and most research into ALCL has found it tends to occur in Macro textured implants, like Allergan. It’s very rare even then, but mentor ones come with an even smaller risk.
It’s also worth noting ALCL is becoming something people are much more aware of so it’s quicker diagnosed and its easily treated by just removing the implant and capsule. It doesn’t tend to spread like other cancers.

Ah thank you both, that is really really helpful!

I agree the risk is so small so think I will just go with it! Xx
