Arrived at 9am and was taken to room within 10 mins, a lovely nurse explained all the bits and pieces and asked me to get into the gown and surgical socks and panties etc. She then came back a little later and did some final medical checks urine, BP etc. and tagged me up with i.d and allergy bands. It was about 10am so i just chilled and watched TV for a bit and she said the surgeon would be along once he was out of his first surgery.

About 10.45am Dr Max came to take photos (to compare in 6-8 weeks) and mark me up. He was really excited and happy and said I was the artistic surgery of the day and that he wanted to do my op after lunch at roughly 1 or 2pm as it would give him more time to sculpt, so I was really pleased. I took some shots of the mark up so you can see what to expect they are on my profile so add me if you want to see as private (sorry about the surgical pants – hideous!). I was having a bit on the inner thighs and mainly outer and hips.

Right on to the exciting bit! About 1.30pm two smiley nurses escorted me down to the pre op room where I met the anesthetist and some of the other surgical team. They were all delightful and did a few final checks before the lovely anesthetist put the IV line in my hand and fed me some happy drugs, I was chatting away and felt great on the bed. Then they wheel you through the double doors straight through to theater where a much bigger team awaited! They were all lovely and said they were there for me and not to worry, really reassuring but I felt super awake! Then Dr Max came over smiling checking i was ok and he would let me know when we were ready. At this point it gets a bit daunting as they take your gown off and you are very exposed but they put a sheet in front of my face to keep the working area sterile and thankfully I couldn’t see much of it. They were all being really cheeky and funny saying you are so slim and Dr Max has an easy job and just generally laughing and being really lovely. The nurse then explained she was dousing my body in iodine, hence coldness and everyone agreed to start, one of the staff waved in my general direction and I went super fuzzy. I heard something about movement and felt real tightness in my chest and then blacked out completely. Turns out things didn’t quite go to plan!

I woke up in recovery with nurse Stuart who had his hand in my fore head trying to calm me. I was shaking really violently and freezing cold even though I was in a super hot blanket. The nurse then explained about 20 mins in my breathing was very shallow and they decided to give me a general anaesthetic as my body wasn’t coping with the local very well and they needed to intubate to stabilise my breathing. Apparently this does happen from time to time and it’s a pain as it means a longer recovery and my throat kills due to the tube! This was easily the worst part of it by a county mile – it felt like it would never end! Stuart was great though kept reassuring me my body would ease and to help gave some more drugs and anti-sickness stuff as i felt really ill. Finally i started feeling better and was all warm and cosy and just absolutely knackered. It was then i looked at the clock and realised it was after 6.30pm, 5 hours later!

Once i was stable they put on the compression garment which went on surprisingly easily and decided they would wheel me upstairs and find out where my husband was. Incidentally this was the only fall down for MYA – he was left in the back waiting room for hours after arriving at 3pm and thinking I would be out by 4pm (as was told I went down at 1.30) got really concerned hours later when no-one would tell him what was happening, he thought something was really badly wrong and didn’t get to see me till i was back in the room at 7pm despite asking people several times.
Dr Max came to check on me before he left adding that despite needing a GA and a longer recovery the vaser went really well, he did a thorough job and I should get a great result, so that cheered me up! The nurses checked on me ALOT and at one point I was going to have to stay in but persuaded them to let me get in a cab at 10.30pm after proving i had eaten a biscuit and gone for a wee!!!
So over 24 hours since surgery now, compression garment very comfortable, passed out last night so no problem sleeping then and have stuck rigorously to drugs as the LA is wearing off though today and am beginning to get sore especially outer!! Thighs massive with all swelling, no leaks but sure they will go down as going for a wee every 5 mins!!!

Will update soon with more pictures in a few weeks. Any questions let me know, hope it helps!

Day 3 update! Oh dear god. Day 2 was fine but my body basically rejected the drugs today and I spent most of the day feeling sick or being sick. Might be something to do with the General and all the drugs on top of it. Hopefully the guys just having sedation will not experience this. Finally over – no more drugs for me. Rather be in pain. Still very swollen but have not really got out of bed. Am a bit worried how I am going to make the post op appointment Friday!! First MLD massage tomorrow so hopefully that will help.

Day 4 update! Much better today seems like the worst is over people!! Feet and ankles now very swollen like am pregnant – proper kankles! But pain much better and can move around more and not using pain killers any more (to stop sickness) so something is improving. Just had MLD and feel sooo much better after. As result have booked 6 sessions now one every three days to aid healing and reduce swelling. Looking forward to going to see nurse for first post -op check to see what they make of it, don’t suppose will see any improvement yet as will only be 4 days post op but here’s to hoping. Most seem to need 2 weeks or so before swelling gone enough to see a change. Check in again in a week or so when might have some piccies!
