when can i lift heavier weights again? Started by: Sarah

    I’m 4 weeks post op. I plan to return to the gym by week 6. I’m just wondering when can I start lifting things like 20kg plates, dumbbells etc.

    Hi Sarah, I returned to the gym at 11 days post op but just doing some low impact cardio, leg stuff and ok maybe the odd spin class 😕…. I am counting down the days as i am 5 weeks post op tomorrow. I am expecting to start lifting very light at 6 weeks but will likely avoid much on the chest as I had unders.

    Great question. I shall be following this thread to see the replies as this will be a question I’m likely to ask after my op at the end of April. I too am booked in for unders. 😊

    I avoided the gym and all forms of exercise, bar lots of walking and standard active lifestyle until I had the all clear at 6 weeks
    I train in CrossFit and my first day back I had just planned on playing it by ear and see what was what.
    I was very surprised that my strength hadn’t been affected that much and ended up with over my body weight above my head ha obviously I’m not stupid and I built it up very gradually but I felt no different and nothing pulled/hurt ect. The biggest hurdle was getting my cardio side back from the 6 weeks off
    I know everyone is different but this was my experience xx

    Oh and just to add, I had overs so I know that unders tend to take longer to heal xx
