im travelling from cardiff to highgate, planning to stay in nearby hotel night before op because as a day case I will likely have morning admission…ok so I saw nurse yesterday and she said its myas policy to stay close by after im discharged from the hospital incase of emergency ect, however I wasnt told this when I had my first consultation or surgeon consultation. so basically I made childcare arrangements only for the day of op not for the following day and its not possible to change either, do they check when you leave hospital if your staying somewhere ect. x x

They never asked me but then maybe that’s because they knew I lived less than an hour away xx

Yes basically they ask anybody who lives more than an hour away from the hospital to stay in a hotel just in case anything happens overnight so u can get back to the hospital quickly. It’s only because the general anesthetic stays in your system for 24 hours so it’s in case u have a reaction to that or any of the meds they give u x

do u know if its common to have a reaction to GA? thing is I really cant stay up london 2 nights ive got 3 kiddies being looked after back in cardiff everyone I know works and they have only booked 1 day off to help me…I wasnt told this in february so the arrangements were literally for one day…xx

I honestly done know Hun, I’ve never heard of anyone texting to it but don’t take my word! Do u have someone travelling with u and staying with u to look after u for the first 24 hours? If so then that will help xxx

I am travelling from south wales too! Dreading the drive! I haven’t booked a hotel yet but i am planning on staying the night before and the night of my surgery, which is a bit of a pain, and extra money :/ I am sure you will be ok though, i haven’t seen any posts on here where people have had to go back, maybe just stay at the hospital for a little bit longer in the day just to make sure you are definitely ok to go home x

Hey @dreamboobies25 im 2 weeks PO and im from cardiff, they didnt check with me to see if i was staying close and was a day case. To be honest the last thing i wanted to do was travel back home after my op even though i was feeling good, the bumps in the road you feel all of them soni would advise to stay close if you can. I stayed at the holiday inn express in golders green. Hope this helps xx

No hun bless ya lol yes it is advised to stay close by just incaseof an eemergency within the first 24 hours out surgery but its up to you. You can go home but it’s sensible to stay close by if you live longer then hour away from hospital

Hey sarah, just added you, they didn’t tell me till the second consultation I had in Cardiff had to stay over hotel, I thought everything was paid for in the price lol… I’m debating what to do whether to stay over or not, I live Newport just the thought paying another 100 out for hotel food, new Bras etc adds up don’t it xx

You will just want to get home after your op. I was so glad I went home when I still was abit dosed up on the anesthetic. The next day I was more sore and my boyfriend said he was so glad we decided to come home straight after coz the car journey the next day would of been a nightmare! It’s like when u go to the gym your always most sore then day or two after xxx
