I have my op next week for breast enlargement and uplift with Dr Giannas at the Fitzroy but I’m so worried about the general anaesthetic and the whole process of being put to sleep.

Has anyone else had this worry and what was your experience like? How do they put you to sleep and how long does it take?

Hopefully this will put my mind at rest a bit haha.

    Thank you!

Hi! I had my OP on the 3rd of June and it was the second general anaesthetic I’ve had. it’s completely normal to feel how you do! I waited in my room then an ODP (who works in anesthetics) came to double check who I was then walked me to theatre. they got me to hop up on the bed, put a cannula in my hand and explained how they would do it. they put some stickers on your back to monitor your heart during surgery and they start the stuff that goes through the needle in your hand to send you to sleep (propofol) and it normally feels cold and sometimes a bit stingy then before you know it you’re out for the count. through the needle in your hand they will also give you a painkiller during the operation! once you’re asleep they put the breathing tube in and start the OP:D it might differ from person to person but both times I’ve just thought woah that was quick as I felt a bit light headed then next thing you wake up in recovery:) my surgery took about 1hr 45. when you wake up in recovery you’ll be groggy and keep dozing off then when they’re happy you’re awake enough they take you back to your room. I must have been in recovery about an hour and they keep a good eye on you in there 🙂

good luck gal, it’s such an exciting time but being nervous is completely normal. they will take good care of you and will be SO used to people feeling anxious. feel free to message me if you have any more questions! xx

Aww thank you, that really had made me feel better about it. I’m such a wimp! haha

It’s good to know that it seems quick from being put to sleep to waking up because I think my op is about 2 hours.

Can’t wait to get it done but will be so glad when I’m in the recovery room and it’s all over haha.

    Thank you again! 🙂 xxx
