We have all been there, trying bras on in a changing room and thinking 'I am pretty sure one of my boobs are bigger than the other'. And if you haven’t, I can guarantee you are taking a sneaky peak down your top right now.
Well, it's safe to say you are not alone when it comes to uneven or asymmetrical breasts. It is widely accepted that few women actually have an identical pair so it's more common than you think. This doesn't mean that it will be on your mind any less but it's good to know you're not in the uneven boat by yourself. There are varying degrees of severity but the term 'Asymmetrical Breasts' normally refers to breasts that vary in at least one cup size. If you're stressing about it then this guide is for you; we have decided to put together a few reasons why asymmetry is not worth stressing over:
1. Other people are none the wiser
It’s true; unless you have a drastic difference in size, it is likely that only you will notice the difference. So if you are feeling self-conscious that other people are eyeing your uneven breasts up, you shouldn’t! Remember you are your own worst critic when it comes to your body. We bet you're covering them up most of the time anyway but wouldn't it be nice to have them on show?
2. Men don’t care, they are boobs!
So it’s the first time getting naked in front of them and you are feeling a little uneasy. Why not lighten the mood by saying “look at my boobs, they are different sizes!” Guaranteed they will more than likely say they never noticed and the awkwardness is quickly resolved.
3. Jenifer Lawrence has them
Yes Hunger Games star and all round Hollywood A-lister has them and is apparently not afraid to share it with the world. In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel she discussed when she first realised she has uneven breasts: "I was like standing there with these doctors and they're like looking at my lungs and I just couldn't, it felt like an elephant in the room and I was like, “Are my breasts uneven?” And they were just kind of like stifled and uncomfortable, obviously. So I kept thinking, Well, I'm gonna dig myself out of this hole by bringing it up again. So he was like, all right, our radiologist will get back to you about your lungs. And I was like, and my breasts." If Jennifer Lawrence can work uneven boobs then so can you!
4. You are not alone
It is likely that out of your friendship group there will more than one of you with uneven breasts. It’s a topic of conversation you could bring up in your next group text or night out. Ask your mum, nan or sisters - someone will pipe up with an honest answer at some point. It's not something to discuss over Sunday dinner but it is likely to be something the female members of your family can relate to.
5. Cosmetic Surgery is always an option
It is extremely common for MYA patients to have a form of asymmetry or uneven breasts. Although it can never be guaranteed that you will have perfect symmetry following a breast augmentation, our highly qualified and experienced surgeons will often recommend difference sizes or shape implants to create more symmetrical breasts.
