Give up alcohol? Get a body like Beyoncé? Every January many of us resolve to start the New Year with a “New You”. But by the end of the month most of our resolutions have been abandoned, just like last season’s handbag. It might be easy to make them, but sticking to those brand new goals is a little bit tougher. To make things simpler, we’ll let you in on sure fire ways to carry those resolutions all the way through to 2017.
Write Them Down
They say that writing down your goals is the first step to making them happen. So, treat yourself to a cute new notebook and start listing what you want to achieve. If they’re down on paper, they’ll seem more real and you can simply turn back to them when you need a reminder or a little boost of inspiration. SO simple, yet SO fail-proof!
Share Your Resolutions
Whether it’s on social media, when you’re catching up with your girls or if you’re chit-chatting with your workmates – shout those resolutions from the hilltops, ladies! It helps to tell your nearest and dearest about what you want to achieve. Telling someone is bound to keep you motivated and making progress. After all, who wants to end up looking like a total failure? Let’s be honest, keeping those resolutions a secret makes it easier to give up when you haven’t got anyone on your back. If that nosy co-worker keeps drilling you on that weekly Spin class, you’re more likely to stick at it.
Time to get creative and call on those art skills to make a collage or board of all of your resolutions. Draw or cut out pictures from magazines then hang your masterpiece somewhere you’ll see it every day. If getting crafty isn’t your thing, write or print out a list and stick that up instead. Waking up to a visual reminder of your resolutions is the easiest way to make sure they’re always on your mind. Not only will you be more likely to keep at it, there’s no way your vow to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day won’t have slipped your mind by Easter.
Break up Big Goals
So, this year you’ve promised yourself that you’re going to set yourself some BIG goals. But of course, some things just don’t happen overnight. Whether you’re determined to move away, start saving a load of money or get that dream job, it helps if you break those biggies into smaller, more achievable targets you can achieve throughout the year. This way, every time you complete a little goal, you’ll know you’re one step closer to that bigger resolution. Result!
