What are tubular breasts?

Tuberous breasts are caused by collagen-rich fibres that gather at the nipple.

Tuberous or tubular breasts usually become noticeable during puberty due to limited growth or insufficient breast tissue leading to abnormal development of the breast shape and a cone-like look.

For some, only one breast is tuberous, causing breast asymmetry (when the breasts are uneven in shape and/or size) and for others it can be present in both breasts. Ranging from mild to severe, some aren't bothered by their breast shape, while others look into corrective surgery to achieve a round appearance.

While you can buy padded bras that lift and create shape in the breasts, the only permanent solution to fix tubular breasts is tuberous breast correction surgery.

When it comes to fixing tubular breasts, there are a few breast augmentation techniques available, depending on the look the patient wants to achieve and their existing breast tissue.

A breast enlargement is the most common procedure. Breast implants are inserted to even out the shape and create the appearance of rounded breasts, compared to the cone-like shape those with tuberous breasts are used to. During the procedure, the cosmetic surgeon can also reduce the size of the areola and realign the nipple for a more symmetrical shape.

The use of a breast implant can also be combined with a breast uplift to further enhance the shape for a more youthful look.

It's important to stress that tuberous breasts are not a cause for concern. However, many people who see signs of tubular breasts opt for cosmetic surgery to make their breast tissue more symmetrical.

Tubular breast correction surgery has a range of other benefits that have the ability to transform a patient's life.

Benefits of tuberous breast correction surgery

One of the key benefits of any kind of cosmetic surgery is increased confidence. Patients often struggle with low self-esteem and struggle in social situations because they’re self-conscious of the way their breasts look under clothes, in lingerie and when wearing swimwear.

With the added confidence, past patients have also noticed an improvement in their social and romantic relationships. They feel more like themselves and feedback to our nurses that tuberous breast surgery has greatly improved their quality of life.

Breast surgery in particular can make dressing and buying clothes much easier. Patients will no longer have to struggle to find bras that fit, flattering tops or feel self-conscious in a bikini.
