A designer vagina is a term used to describe vaginal cosmetic surgery procedures that aim to enhance the physical appearance of the labia, increase the patient’s confidence, and reduce any associated discomfort.
The labia are the folds of skin that protect your vagina, the labia majora (outer lips) and the labia minora (inner lips). Labiaplasty (or labia reduction) is a popular procedure that involves reducing excess tissue of the labia minora that protrudes outside of the labia majora, improving the symmetry and size of the labia.
Made famous by celebrities, a designer vagina, also known as a labiaplasty, is a surgery that improves the size and symmetry of the labia.
The labia are the folds of skin that protect your vagina, made up of the labia majora (outer lips) and the labia minora (inner lips).
In the cosmetic surgery world, this is known as labiaplasty (or labia reduction) and is a procedure that reduces excess tissue of the labia minora that protrudes outside of the labia majora.
Some patients are unhappy with the shape and size of their labia and associated discomfort this may cause. Some of the benefits of labiaplasty (labia reduction) surgery are:
To improve the appearance, symmetry, and size of the labia
Increase self-esteem and confidence
Reduce discomfort during sexual intercourse
Reduce discomfort and visibility of the labia when wearing underwear and tight fitting clothing
Reduce discomfort during exercise and sporting activities
Every patient’s reason for wanting a cosmetic surgery procedure is different, typically labiaplasty surgery (designer vagina) is carried out for cosmetic purposes.
Women’s labia come in different shapes and sizes and are unique to them, however, some patients may present with enlarged, misshapen, or asymmetrical labia and this can affect a patient’s day-to-day life in many ways.
Some of the reasons patients may desire a designer vagina:
Enlarged labia that protrudes
Misshaped or asymmetrical labia
Patients may experience visible labia that falls out of their underwear or swimwear
Patients may experience discomfort wearing certain clothing and underwear
Patients may experience discomfort during sexual intercourse
Patients may experience discomfort when exercising or playing sports
Patients may experience embarrassment and low self-esteem due to the above, this can affect their relationships and prevent them from taking part in social activities such as going swimming or on holiday

The shape and size of your labia can be reduced with a labiaplasty procedure that removes excess skin of the labia minora that protrudes out of the labia majora. Labiaplasty is a procedure we offer at MYA and can be performed by a specialist MYA surgeon under general anaesthetic in 30-60 minutes time.
Every woman’s labia vary in shape and size and there is no ‘normal’. It is common for women to find that their labia minora (the inner lips) are enlarged or asymmetric and may protrude or stick out when they wear tight clothing or underwear. Some women choose to have a labiaplasty procedure to correct this and achieve a neater more symmetrical appearance.
Generally, most women who undergo labiaplasty surgery will experience some loss of sensitivity in the first few weeks, but this should subside. In very few cases, this loss of sensation may last longer than expected.
The typical recovery time for a designer vagina (labiaplasty) procedure is up to 6 weeks. Patients are advised to take 1-2 weeks off work for their recovery dependent on the physical demands of their job.
A designer vagina procedure or more commonly known as labiaplasty, can cost anywhere from £4,495. The cost of a labiaplasty procedure is tailored to individual requirements following a surgeon assessment.
Scarring from labiaplasty surgery is very minimal when the wound is kept clean and is monitored regularly by your qualified nurse.
Labiaplasty is done under general anaesthetic, meaning patients won’t feel any pain or discomfort during the procedure.
However, after the surgery, patients should expect bruising and swelling following labia reduction surgery. Pain relief will be prescribed to ease discomfort following the procedure and pain should subside after 7-14 days.
