Do over the muscle implants look bigger?

Implant placement refers to where the breast implant in placed during breast surgery.

When planning your breast augmentation procedure, there are three implant placement options to consider:

1. Subglandular Placement

The implant is placed in front of the muscle and behind the breast tissue. This is less painful than other implant placements meaning a shorter recovery time and is often chosen if you have enough breast tissue to cover the implant fully.

2. Subfascial Placement (also known as partial)

The implant is placed between the connective tissue (fascia) and the muscle. This helps to reduce the risk of rippling, prevents the appearance of a prominent profile and the muscle movement over the implant helps to soften it.

3. Submuscular Placement

The implant is placed under the muscle and is often the placement of choice for women with little breast tissue to cover the implants. It helps to reduce the risk of rippling, the risk of capsular contracture and helps to provide a smoother contour from the clavicle to the nipple. The disadvantage of this placement is that the breast area is more painful and takes longer to recover. You may also be asked to wear a breast band post operatively to assist with the implants settling into the pockets.

It is important that you listen to your surgeon's advice when it comes to implant placement. Once you have discussed your desired result and had a physical examination, your surgeon will confirm the best placement to achieve this.
