You can be consulted for a procedure, 6 months following childbirth or finishing breast feeding if applicable (Breast procedures). The reason for this is we want to ensure you and your body are fully recovered postpartum and to ensure the best possible result for you.
Why is it important that I wait to have my procedure post pregnancy?
During and after pregnancy your body goes through massive changes which requires plenty of time to recover. If surgery is done too early, the results might not last or could be distorted as the body continues to change. (for example, if you were to have further weight loss or hormonal fluctuations)
There also comes big safety risks when performing a surgery too close to childbirth (vaginally or via c-section). As your body is still recovering the risk of complication is higher.
Here at MYA, we also want you to feel emotionally ready for a procedure. After childbirth your hormones can feel like a rollercoaster. You may also be suffering from sleep deprivation and possible postpartum depression that could affect your decision making. Cosmetic surgery is not a decision to be taken likely, so it is so important that you are in the right mindset to start your journey.
Reasons why our patients chose to have procedures post pregnancy:
A desire to feel like themselves again – After childbirth many of our patients have said they struggled to recognise their bodies and became self-conscious. Surgery can help too restore or rejuvenate that confidence and help patients re connect with their pre-pregnancy self.
Physical changes that haven’t ”Bounced back” – Some changes from pregnancy don’t just go away with diet or exercise and aren’t always ‘fixable’ naturally. Changes such as stretched abdominal muscles, excess skin, deflated or asymmetrical breasts are only going to be transformed with surgery.
A sense of empowerment and control – For some of our patients, having surgery is a form of taking ownership of their bodies after the physical toll of pregnancy and childbirth. Going for that procedure is a personal decision for them to invest in themselves after months or years of prioritising their child and family.
