What do tubular breasts look like?

Tubular breasts is a condition that can occur in one or both breasts during breast development in women. Tubular breasts are more common than most people would realise, but they often go unidentified due to the lack of education and information surrounding the condition.

What causes Tubular Breasts to develop?

Women’s breasts begin to develop during puberty, typically between the ages of 10-15. However, some women experience abnormal development during puberty, where excess tissue forms in the areola (the skin around the nipple) and irregular development occurs, affecting the shape and size of the breasts.

How do I know if I have Tubular Breasts?

Tubular breasts can range from mild to severe, it’s important to note that no tubular breast is the same, and patients can present with one or multiple characteristics. Tubular breasts typically form a ‘cone-like’ shape with enlarged or puffy areolas, there is minimal breast tissue in the lower pole of the breast and the breasts can appear to have wide spacing in the cleavage.

Tubular Breast characteristics:

  • Enlarged or puffy areolas

  • Minimal breast tissue in the lower pole of the breasts

  • Unusually wide spacing between the breasts

  • Cone-like shape to the breasts

  • Sagging of the breasts

  • Asymmetry

  • A high breast fold

  • Narrow base at the chest wall

Can a Breast Enlargement treat Tubular Breasts?

Tubular breast correction is a popular procedure for women who are looking to correct the shape and size of their tubular breasts. Depending on the complexity of the patient’s tubular breasts, a breast enlargement, can typically correct the shape of the breasts whilst enhancing the size and creating a larger more rounded breast. However, in some cases a breast enlargement will be combined with a nipple lift, nipple reductions or mastopexy (uplift) to correct the shape of the breast and nipple and achieve the patient’s desired outcome.

During a breast enlargement consultation with one of our expert MYA surgeons, the surgeon will examine the patient’s breasts, assess their physical requirements and recommend the best treatment plan for them. Each breast will be treated as a separate procedure and some patients may require a combination of procedures or different implant sizes. After all, women’s breasts are sisters not twins, so it is important that each breast is considered separately.

Do MYA use Breast Implants to treat Tubular Breasts?

Depending on the treatment plan the surgeon has recommended, MYA will use high quality Mentor breast implants, for tubular breast correction procedures. The surgeon will make a small incision (typically between 2-3 inches) along your breast crease to insert the breast implants either in front of the muscle, between or underneath. The breast implants will increase the size of the breasts, achieving a fuller breast shape and larger cup size.
