Why are my breasts cold to the touch?

Following breast surgery, it is important that you discuss any concerns about the temperature of your breasts with your surgeon and healthcare team at MYA.

July 23rd, 2020 |Ask an Expert

Patients undergoing breast surgery that involves an uplift or breast reduction are advised to monitor the colour and temperature of their nipples. If the nipple becomes cold or there is a change in colour, it is important to contact your surgeon and healthcare team at MYA immediately.

Patients sometimes report increased or decreased sensitivity in the nipples and surrounding breast tissues which usually settles down within a few weeks; however, this can last longer and, in some cases, may be permanent. The reason for this is that during surgery the superficial nerves are disturbed.

If you have any concerns during your recovery, please contact your MYA healthcare team.
