Will the position of my nipples change following surgery?

After a breast augmentation procedure, the appearance and position of your nipples may change, but this is often the case, and is something your surgeon will explain, based on the size and shape of the implants you’ve chosen. Following surgery,  your breasts may look high and the skin may feel and appear tight. This will settle down as the healing process takes place; the time this takes will vary from person to person. The outcome of your operation will be difficult to establish until you are healed.

Breast implants do not significantly improve ptosis (sagging). A mastopexy (breast uplift) is the specific treatment for ptosis. Larger implants will cause ptosis (sagging) in time, depending on your skin elasticity and uplift surgery may be required in the future.

Your expectations of the outcome of your procedure need to be discussed clearly with your surgeon. Whilst the majority of patients are pleased with the results of their surgery, some patients may feel dissatisfied. It is important that you match your expectations with what your surgeon advises is achievable. If your expectations are unrealistic, the surgery you request may be inappropriate for you. If you have any concerns or questions, it is best that these are resolved prior to your surgery.

As with any procedure, there’s an “adaptation period” where you might experience ups and downs about the outcome of your augmentation. If you’re not happy with their position after this, it’s important to speak with your consultant and discuss next steps.
